Welcome Elle to this group. Although I am born Muslim, and Alhumdulilah Thank God for the true guidance. I do understand to some extent your concern about the family alienation at times, I had met many new Muslim Converts that have gone thru similar stages, and are now Alhumdulilah the guiding light for the born Muslims. Insha-Allah you will find some good friends here that can advise you well. The University Muslim Student @ssociations are usually a good area to look into. In US they have MSA in most universities and I @ssume the same set up in UK.
@ closetconvert, Welcome also, if I may take the permission to answer your inquiry about the difference between the Revert and a convert. The Revert is also a new convert to Islam, some prefer to call it as Revert, as I read somewhere, the logic for this is, that all the people are Born in the Deen (Islam), and later adopt the religion of their parents, when they grow up, as c@tholics, Protestants, Budhists, Hindus, etc.
May Allah (Subhan-Wa-Ta'Ala), bless us all, Ameen.
